The police in Lagos on Wednesday
docked a 24-year-old driver, Sadu Kehinde, charged with reckless driving
and causing damage, obstruction and death.
The accused,
who resides at No. 4B, Tonner Close, Safejo, Alaba, was arraigned before
an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court over the death of a chief, his wife and
driver.
Cpl. Kehinde Olatunji, the prosecutor, told the court
that the accused committed the offence on Aug.3, along the
Gbagada-Oworonsoki expressway flyover, near Anthony Village, Lagos.
He
alleged that the accused, who was in charge of a Turbo Star truck with
registration number LND146XB, drove on the public highway in a dangerous
manner.
Olatunji said that the action caused the death of one Chief Diji Akinfe, 81, and his 73-year-old wife, Kike.
“The
accused lost control and as a result, the container on the truck fell
on a Toyota Avalon saloon car with registration number SQ32AAA, driven
by the late chief’s driver , named Abiodun, who also died on the spot.
The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate
O. Adelabu refused the bail application of the accused and ordered the
Investigating Police Officer to duplicate and forward the case file to
the Director of Public Prosecutions, for legal advice.
She ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri prison and adjourned the case to Sept 20. (NAN)
